A full vehicle scan revealed fault codes&nbsp;<code>$130304$<\/code>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<code>$130104$<\/code>, pointing directly to a Vanos intake\/exhaust camshaft correlation\/offset error.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To determine if this was a stretched timing chain or a simple hydraulic control issue, we conducted a manual oil pressure check and removed the Vanos solenoids. We discovered fine metal screens on the solenoids were clogged with carbon debris, disrupting oil flow to the Vanos actuators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Cure<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Removed the old clogged intake and exhaust Vanos solenoids.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Flushed the engine lubrication system using specialized engine flushes to clear out old sludge.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Installed two brand new, premium\u00a0<strong>OEM Vanos solenoids<\/strong>\u00a0with updated filter screen designs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Performed a fresh engine oil and filter service using BMW-approved\u00a0$5\\text{W}-30$\u00a0fully synthetic oil.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cleared the engine adaptations and ran the ISTA+ automated Vanos calibration sequence to relearn the mechanical camshaft boundaries.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The &#8220;Hero&#8221; Factor<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The client had previously been quoted over\u00a0<em>R25,000<\/em>\u00a0elsewhere for a complete timing chain replacement.
